November 3, 2012 was the pre-draft for the American Basketball League. www.abl-hoops.com Men of all ages came from all over to give the coaches a taste of what to expect during the 2013 season. There were 3 full courts of able-bodied men who were both hungry and thirsty for a chance to be apart of something great. And great is what spectators will be privileged to experience beginning in January. Get ready because we are just getting started. And the Blueprint Team is front and center. Some of the brilliant brains who are ready to bring the championship to Sugar Land, Calvin Murphy and son Calvin Murphy, Jr. Our eyes are wide open and we are ready to create Legends.
The morning began at 9:00 AM with warm-ups and drills from players. They were divided into groups. Jersey colors were all black with white numbers, and all white with black numbers. It was an amazing sight. As the players began working drills. It was pretty evident that this was not a joke. This is a big deal! We were able to quickly spot the leaders, the veterans, and some who were still trying to find their purpose. Either way, there was a great mix of talent. And everyone was hungry, but some made it known in a way that set them apart from others. I can’t say yet who they were, but I can definitely say that this team is definitely going to be one for others to reckon with. The teams ran drills and at 11:45 AM everyone took a break. It was definitely time to reflect and come back with your game face. Because, 12:45 PM meant that you had to truly show ABL coaches exactly what you had to bring to the table.
We were glad to be on the court. The energy was paramount. Balls were flying, slick passes, skilled footwork and there was also some DUNKING going on. There was a lot of heart on these courts today. The best part was the team work as the groups huddled up before tip-off, and during the game kept the communication going. Some were able to decipher the language, and then there were some who were just apart of the group. We saw some pouting, there were some disagreements with calls, but the games were serious. The day ended shortly before 3:00 PM, and the players were tired, but pumped up. Everyone waiting to finally get their shot.
There is still one more stop we have to make. And we are bringing it all the way home to Sugar Land, Texas. Official Free Agent Tryouts will take place the weekend of November 16, 2012.
